Fishtales History

In the early 1940's Art & Carrie Moore decided to start a raspberry farm. They choose one acre on the Island Highway where the Restaurant now stands and began clearing it using axes and crosscut saws and gunpowder to dislodge the large tree stumps.

With the land cleared they began planting raspberry plants and soon the initial 3 rows became a full acre of luscious fruits ripening in the Qualicum sunshine. They called the plantation "Berryland".

In 1979, an English couple, Alan and Lily King, bought the property, made it their home and converted the old farm house into an English Style Tea Room, which many of you may remember as the Tudor Tea Room.

In 1993, John and Kam Schroder came to Qualicum Beach looking for a house to escape the hubbub of city life and bought the restaurant. They both worked for a major airline and had traveled extensively. John is from Denmark, with a strong background in hotels and restaurants. Kam, his wife, is from Yorkshire England. They created a fine dining restaurant called "The Tudor House" and served continental cuisine with the help of their chef son, Ken, an honor winning graduate the College of Culinary Arts Program.  Special touches, such as exotic Orchids from the Orient were introduced, as well as, excellent food and first class service.

In 1997, it was the right time for a radical change, so the Tudor House was transformed into the Fish Tales Cafe with the emphasis on fresh seafood and especially English Style Fish and Chips.

Quality and service are still the main course. Kam and John, daughter Jennifer and son Ken along with their excellent staff will do everything to make your visit an enjoyable one.
